Hi! Do you realize that you are now living in a century in which scientists are implanting rats with biofuel cells to generate electrical energy? In other words, science is determined to kill us all in a fantastically implausible manner sometime within your lifetime. Which is something of a relief, as I don't know that my current retirement plan will support me beyond the age of 60 or so. When we are inevitably replaced by some sort of mutant or machine intelligence, what will they think of our art and historical records, our hastily-scribbled-upon cocktail napkins, the faded scratchings we leave across the cave wall of Time?

Have you seen this? It's a viral campaign for an upcoming Pixar film. I really love the idea of "invented histories" in pop culture, referencing toys and bands and films that never actually happened, but seem like they could have. Combine that with my taste for all sorts of 80's memorabilia, and that makes this a slam dunk for me. The account was even set up a month or so in advance, posting video of items that actually DID exist, so points for planning and attention to detail.

Wow it's late! Yet I for some reason feel a superstitious compulsion to churn out this announcement before the day is over. What would happen if I failed to send this thing? Do I get seven years bad luck? Does the world fall into glorious anarchy like two star-crossed lovers and one double-decker bus running towards a passionate embrace? Does the entire universe collapse, fold down into nth space, and unfold again creating a parallel universe which is almost exactly identical to this one, except that the announcement actually does go out? Did that actually just happen right now?

To quote a famous thinker: "My robot brain needs beer."

Holy crap, it's mid-April already? That caught me by surprise. I'm a bit too time-crunched for wit, today. But not for beer! And I am looking forward to busting out the scratch pad and continuing my quest to write lurid prose that makes me look brilliant and creative, as opposed to criminally insane. Well, I'll settle for an even balance there, actually. And I'm looking forward to seeing all of you!

Today is April 6th, and you obviously know what that means.

It's Chakri Day, on which we celebrate the founding of Bangkok! Also known as King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke the Great Day, which is way classier.

It is also Tartan Day, on which we celebrate the Declaration of Arbroath

by speaking in atrociously poor Scottish accents and calling kilts 'skirts.' At least, that's how it was explained to me. My sources have been chosen for their impeccable entertainment value rather than their accuracy, which may result in some misleading information here and there. I mean, what would you rather be, funny or right?

Also, it's Drink n Draw night. Giddyup.

Man, these would be a lot more useful as reminders if I sent them out earlier in the day. Or would they be? Hey, if these weeklies are bugging you, cluttering up your inbox, or generally getting uncomfortably all the hell up in your business, let me know and I'll take you off the weekly distro, it's all gravy. Man, I have been stupid busy lately. In a lot of ways that's a good thing! March is named of course for the Roman god of war, and it's definitely been feeling like a "courage under fire" type of month.

How you guys holding up? Dunno about you, but I could absolutely use a beer. And a nap. And a vacation. Drink n Draw is going on tonight, so I can at least take care of one of those things. Hope to see you there.

It is once again that time of the week when all good and goodly folk, and the rest of us, meet up for a beer or a water (or one of those fancy-pants little coffee concoctions in the little cups that look like they're for tea parties and hypertensive white rabbits, i mean seriously) and proceed to draw, write, aspire and conspire.

Drink n' Draw is this evening, at the usual time in the usual place with the usual folk. See you there if you're there. :)
