This is the Cowboy's Story. Growing up, he always wanted to be a cowboy; perhaps something was wrong with him, you know, mentally. He wanders far and wide settling disagreements with violence, even at the cost of love. Thinking he has fought for peace, he instead realizes that he has helped create a world full of cowboys, and there will never be peace.

Press play for the tracklist.

This is the Astronaut's story. He escapes his old life to seek his destiny among the stars, but becomes lost. He lands on a Floating Island, full of intense sounds and images, but finds it difficult for the inhabitants to appreciate his time in the vastness of space.

We get a lot of music through these parts, and it often comes at a strange angle of flight, much like this collection of will smith ditties filtered through a band of traveling gypsies. Added a little bit of joy in my busy day. Hopefully it brings the same to you. I've been humming bits of this all week since it was beamed onto the island.

The thing that isn't surprising to me is that virtual worlds, which share with dreams the sense that the things you're doing are compelling, that there is an order to them that makes them meaningful, can take over one's real life. What is surprising to me is the way that this soup of 6 billion beings can give rise, constantly, to situations which possess such symmetry in their narrative.

I have an improved version of the 001: ASTRONAUT sequence, as well as 002: COWBOY in the wings. But I need to find a better way of hosting these than Soundcloud, which has pretty severe limitations in its free version, and Mixcloud, which never got back to me with an activation email (!).  They are here, but will in the meantime...kingofghosts_icon.jpg

Good times.

My man indie filmmaker L. Jeffrey Moore recommends this screening of Bloodwood this Tuesday, April 20 at the Brava Theater in SF.

Check out the link here on Facebook for more info. Summary after the jump.

FLOATING ISLAND MIX 001 ASTRONAUT by secretlion

For your weekend visual enjoyment, a series of photos of twins courtesy of fantomatik. Worth looking at.  In case the above image by Janette Beckman doesn't get you interested, try this one by Elene Usdin:

What is it about twins anyway? Is it the unsettling feeling that our vaunted identity is actually much narrower than we care to admit, that nature and history can rhyme? Or is it simply the aesthetic quality of repetition, an arabesque pattern come to life?

Anyway, dope pics. Check 'em out.

Finished this a couple of weeks ago, as an experiment in taking a simple sketch and outputting a digital piece in Adobe Illustrator. I also posted a version of the drawing on Mojizu, which is a site for character designers. If you've never heard of it, it's worth checking out. It's fun to look at the wide range of styles on display. Here's the final piece, and the sketch will be after the jump:
