How can you take a group of people seriously who were introduced as an interdimensional banking firm? Easy. LL&L is a vast organization that appears to have a concern with policing the dimensions and time stream- no, not policing-guiding.
The influence of LL&L has been restricted so far to the so-called X-Books (or, perhaps a bit more accurately, the Weapon X-Books). They handle Wolverine's money and follow his exploits- sometimes merely watching him, sometimes helping him out (as against the villainous Cyber). Are they then a kind, cuddly group of people who only want the best for everyone?
It's hard to say.
This company was responsible for the ejection of the Juggernaut from Earth 616, however temporary, into a dimension where he formed a group known as the Exiles. They were also partially responsible for the outcome of the storyline known as Devil's Reign, wherein Mephisto discovered (and terrorized) the Top Cow universe.
LL&L may also have a fourth 'L' who has been ejected from his seat at the head of the company (or who may have retired) as hinted in the Deadpool flashback. He may well be the geriatric Gerry who follows Wade around.
Speaking of Deadpool, the company also has a strong interest in him. Until recently, he had a guardian angel (the Expediter) watching over him, since he is supposedly fated to become a good guy- or at least an important guy. Recently, it seems as though he has been hired by Landau, Luckman, and Lake in some unknown capacity. Is this a step up for a former villain?
It's hard to say.
What kind of resources and structure does this company seem to have at its command? Firstly, it has a powerful precog who can undoubtedly see into the futures of many dimensions simultaneously (though not clearly into his own) by the name of Montgomery, who may or may not have been scarred and crippled deliberately by the company. His ability to see his own future has certainly been dampened by the company.
It has high technology which allows LL&L operatives to create dimensional portals, rip holes in the space time continuum, become indetectible to all senses and telepathy, and bodyslide. They also have enough knowledge of genetic engineering to create a photosim biolmangler, class two. (Don't ask. Just accept that it's big and bad.)
At the top of the corporation are the three 'L's themselves. The next rung of power would appear to be occupied with overbosses, such as Dixon. An undetermined number of steps separates an overboss from agents like Noah and Zoe (the Expediter). There are also generic grunts in body armor, presumably being the bottom of the pile.
They seem to want to find heroes (or at least, Zoe Culloden does) but is it truly the case that LL&L wants what's best for everyone? Or do they have some other nefarious agenda? Only time will tell.
